Sept 16th:  As a political analyst and pollster, my commentary Blog and Election Central websites are likely the largest in the Yukon.  These syndicated pages are part of my larger site that attracts viewers from 90 nations each season.  Over the past year, my favourite targets for political lampooning have been Dennis Fentie of the Yukon Party, Cabinet Communications Director Peter Carr & defeated YP Candidate in the Copperbelt By-Election, Cynthia Kearns.

Thus it was not a total surprise when we found my passionate Carcross Murder Trial Blog (June 2006) seemingly exploited by the Cabinet Office.  CBC radio and tv did a very public crucifixion of me by heavily editing what i said on the Blog about Dean Johns-Boucher of Carcross.  His blaming alcohol, drugs, abuse while lying to the Jury (as evidenced by his earlier taped interviews for a plea bargain) and his waving of the Eagle Feather ... all blended together to disgust me.  While i normally add humour and tongue-in-cheek comments to my blog segments to lighten the topic, on that night i was livid and maybe went over the top.  Lesson learned.  Anyway, CBC interviewed who they thought was an incensed sympathiser of First Nations, but soon found out it was in fact the campaign manager for Cynthia Kearns of the Yukon Party.  Cynthia openly blames TrendLines for her defeat in the by-election.  Her nickname at our website was "fentie's smoke buddie," a label sent in by one of our many concerned viewers.  With this information made public on our Blog, CBC made no further comments on the subject and no other media outlet in the Yukon picked up the story due to its obvious bias.

Until this week. Upon the announcement of my Candidacy as an Independent, the same story popped up again ... three months later.  While Rose Kushniruk would have everyone believe the controversy this week came about from her due diligence, the circumstantial facts show otherwise.  Her credibility has two faults.  Rose denies knowing the above mentioned Peter Carr.  Yet according to local sources, she is his counterpart at CAFN.  A simple Google search or a search of YTG press releases shows that Rose & Peter co-authored many press releases.  A search of our hosting server logs showed us that almost every time Rose was investigating our Blog this past week, the Cabinet Office was looking at the same pages simultaneously.  Coincidence?  Or an orchestrated smear campaign using the same heavily edited phrases from our Blog in her emails?  Rose claims that the article shows that i know nothing of CAFN.  She carefully neglected to mention that my blog was in June and were comments made during the Carcross Hotel murder trial about Carcross/Tagish FN and that the junk yard comments were aimed at native American reserves in the USA that i visited.  "All the President's Men" (Watergate) is on CBC tonite.  Appropriate, eh!   What is going on in (the) Whitehorse and how far up the chain of command does this go??!!  I can hear the YTG shredders from Alsek Crescent!

On her part, the trickery get worse.  At this week's CBC Koffee Klatch at the Junction's Alcan Breakfast Room, she asked if she could ask me a question?  I agreed.  After reading a prepared statement, she simply started walking from the taping room.  She did not want to hear the Answer.  Her intent was plainly to only read the text into the taping.  It still gets worse.  As she left the room, she challenged me to come to the CAFN all-candidate debate at the Community Hall.  With the tape still running, she boasted that my presence at the forum would allow me to learn about her people.  Two individuals accompanying her pleaded with me to follow them to the Hall.  And i came.  I sat in the audience and listened to three presentations.  Then Rose approached the audience microphone and asked the chairman for my eviction.  She stated that she understood that this event was for CAFN members only and i was unwelcome in light of the her inspired controversy this past week.  It is clear that i was invited only to be set up for her blatant humiliation attempt.  I left graciously and respectfully all the time knowing that CAFN has within it a CANCER.

My opponents in this Election are not Jim Bowers or Gary McRobb.  They are peers and competition and both seeking the same MLA position as me.  My opponents in this Election are those that Rose Kushniruk seems to represent: Chief James Allen who opposes my blocking of construction of a Casino in our region;  the drug dealers that want to make the Junction their new playground;  those who oppose my stance on Crime & Justice.  I am determined to break the "conspiracy of silence" that shields wife/child beaters from being arrested; that shields child molesters from being arrested;  that shield rapists and other perpetrators of violent crime from being investigated and arrested.  She seems to want to thwart my efforts at getting these people in jail and making sure that Legislation does not come to fruition that allows those criminals to return to their homes and communities via easier bail and parole provisions.  This is my history in other jurisdictions.  Rose would have folks believe that i leave people angry where i've trodden. She's right.  If u are a bad guy, u should be afraid.  Very afraid.  'Cuz i will be relentless in helping the police and crown attorneys make this a safe place to live.

In 2004, my forensic audit exposed the theft of thousands of dollars from an Atlin Society.  It resulted in requests for investigation and fraud charges both of and by Industry Canada, the Auditor General & the RCMP.  In the past year one of my projects has been to help a group known as the Children of the Community in Carcross-Tagish.  In settling the C/TFN land claim, Leadership recruited the region's non-clan families to augment their numbers to increase the per capita funding available. These folks were promised that the Constitution would be changed to allow non-clans (also called unknowns & non-names) to hold office in the next General Assembly Elections (Sept 2007). To date no amendments to accommodate the keeping of that promise have surfaced and time is ticking down. I represent those 176 C/TFN citizens in their quest for full democracy and the elimination of the discrimination that their status presents. These folks were promised that by being included as members of C/TFN, they would not lose any of their present rights or those available to all Canadians under the Charter of Rights. In the end, nothing was further from the truth and they now seek redress ... even if it means the setting up of their own First Nation land claim and self-governance. If Rose's position is that these folks should remain the downtrodden, i will be pleased to be in the opposing camp in any public venue.

Upon her first day working at St Elias School, Evalina was warned by the staff to hide her purse.  Upon my second day walking Topaz in the Junction, i was chased down by a car and questioned of what my intentions were in allowing the children in the park to pat and cuddle my sheepdog.  They said they were afraid that i was maybe a kidnapper.  In short, folks in Haines Junction live in FEAR.  Constant paranoia.  It is not healthy.  And that sentiment is being picked up by the tourist trade.  At Village Council this week, it was reported that the anti-drug RED signs are not being wholeheartedly accepted by the business community.  Anecdotally it was reported that Holland America buses are passing us by since they were erected.  At lease on the hi-way, they send the wrong message about our home.  This was discussed at the CBC Koffee Klatch as well.  Rose said she doesn't care.  She said that drugs are everywhere.  She challenged the Tourism Dept figures that this was the worst year for American visitors since 1972.  She continued that even if it was true, it would only hurt "that bunch of small businesses owned by the GERMANS."  Rose Kushniruk is the only Racist that i have met in Haines Junction.  And its on the CBC tape.  Her hate of "whities" is not helpful.  She is either easily manipulated by her friends in the Cabinet Office or she has problems with those of us with German heritage.  I understand from the local grapevine that she is a well wisher of good proposal writers.  She likes grants.  And this reminds me of the last episode of Northern Town which is filmed here in the Yukon.  When a slacker is asked why he has problems putting in a full day's work and where is his work ethic, he chastises his supervisor with "hey, we can't all be Germans!"

We thank Rose et al for our welcome to the Junction.  Being part Hungarian & Polish we enjoy spice in our lives.  Y'all added that this week.  Only Harold Johnson was genuine.  He has started to teach me atlatl throwing and wanted to show Evalina his works and have us meet the elders.  Rose may have destroyed our budding friendship with her dose of hatred.  Very regrettable.  Mr Johnson has much to share.  I would like to ask him how many other non-FN's from the village took the time to chat with him over his two weeks of demonstrations and if he appreciates that Rose chooses who he may befriend.  It is unfair that she uses him as a pawn.  But then, it was similarly unfair that the Cabinet Office seems to be involved and uses Rose as their tool for malice.  First Nations have important but sensitive issues.  The Fentie Gov't has shown twice this Summer that they don't mind inflaming your feelings to their end of getting at me.  Stand back for a moment please and notice the Racists and Opportunists in our midst.

I trust that my record, my past and my character will pass scrutiny.  It may take longer than Thanksgiving Day to convince enuf Kluane voters to make me your next MLA, but i am confident that with time, many in the region will come to know me for my years of genuine charity and volunteerism and will appreciate my knowledge in many subjects and issues.  Please question the motives and character of those that would paint me as a monster with similar scrutiny and due diligence.  And i thank the ranks from the FN & non-FN camps that gave us encouragement after this episode broke.  The bullies won round #1 this week and succeeded in attaining Evalina's dismissal from the school because of what i myself may or may not have intended when i wrote about a murder trial in June.  She has never written a single word on my editorials at her website.  This used to be called "guilt by association."  If this is Justice in Haines Junction, please vote for Jim or Gary or the parachutist.
